I was excited to join Martin Brower when the Coventry Distribution Centre opened and got to prepare the first journeys going out! I started as a Transport Clerk in 2018, moved up to a Transport Shift Manager in 2020, and then jumped at the chance to become a Fleet Technician in 2023. Now, I’m a Fleet Manager as of 2024! I started with Martin Brower 8 years ago in the HR department as an apprentice. The company supported me through courses and training and eventually I worked to become the HR Advisor at our Basingstoke DC. During my time in the HR team the company was incredibly supportive of my desire to learn new skills and develop my knowledge.
I began my journey at Martin Brower as a transport supervisor, stepping into the transport industry with limited knowledge but a strong background in people management and planning, bolstered by my master’s in international Procurement and Supply Management. Transitioning from theory to practical application was a significant learning experience, revealing the vast complexities of the transport sector. Over the past two years, I have been fortunate to lead various projects and planning initiatives, receiving unwavering support from my manager, which allowed me to grow both personally and professionally.
The numerous leadership and management training sessions have played a crucial role in enhancing my leadership qualities and decision-making skills. Last year, I completed my Transport Manager's Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), which further solidified my understanding of the regulations and best practices within the industry. This comprehensive training has equipped me to make informed and progressive decisions that positively impact our operations.
As I step into the role of Assistant Transport Operations Manager, I am excited about the future opportunities that lie ahead. I joined the company of Golden West some 26 years ago, on a temporary contract.
I was the first female to work in the warehouse environment at Heywood Distribution Centre I took on the role of warehouse operative and after a couple of years became a trainer, later completing a "Train a Trainer" course.
I was lucky enough to take part in the Martin-Brower academy, which gave me the opportunity to visit all departments gaining a great insight into how the full supply chain operation works. It was also beneficial to help me develop valuable relationships, and indeed lasting friendships.
After completing the academy, I was successful in a role within the Customer service team for 5 years. Working to solve problems and connecting with our customer was something I really enjoyed.
I then came back to the warehouse after applying for a role as a warehouse Team leader. It is during this time I have been encouraged to develop my training skills and have recently qualified as a first aid instructor.
I am now lucky enough, to be able to deliver first aid training to our operatives, tailoring the training to our working environment.
The opportunities at Martin Brower are endless, and I have been very lucky to have been encouraged and inspired by the Martin Brower Team as a whole.
My experience here at Martin Brower has been truly an amazing journey. From being given the opportunity to join as an apprentice to gain my HGV license at the age of 18 to now having my full license and being a full-time Martin Brower driver is truly remarkable.
