Job Description

  • Manage the Wider Value Project to evaluate the fuller, non-financial, contribution of a leading body
  • Engage with stakeholders and establish and manage a stakeholder reference group to help guide the project.
  • Define and run stakeholder engagement events to gather input to project
  • Draw together, review and analyse existing evidence and data on economic, financial, social and environmental contribution.
  • Develop a methodology for evaluating, reporting and presenting the wider benefit values of this leading body
  • Commission and manage specific packages of work to collect data on economic, social and environmental contribution.
  • Define and oversee project budget over lifetime of project.
  • Apply the Natural Capital Protocol to the leading body
  • Engage with prganisations Board and Scottish Government colleagues on the methodology and how to use it in strategic planning, operational decision making.
  • Develop a decision support matrix to guide investment appraisals and ranking.
  • Ensure the proper governance and operation of the project through operation of a Project Board and in accordance with good project management principles.
  • Delivery of the project as set out in the Project Initiation Document.
  • Provide advice on how to evaluate the wider benefit delivery from different ways of managing Scottish Crown Estate assets, including pilot projects with local communities and local authorities.
  • Provide reports and presentations to share the outputs of the project with partners and other bodies.
  • Establish the organisation as a respected leader in the field of wider benefit evaluation.

  1. Knowledge, skills and experience



  • A sound and deep understanding of sustainability criteria, assessment, value determination, weighting and reporting.
  • Knowledge of Integrated Reporting evaluation methodologies such as Natural Capital Protocol
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Numeracy and competent user of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Sound research skills.
  • Confidence to engage effectively with internal and external contacts and represent the organisation in a positive light.
  • Ability to build effective relationships to enable fulfilment of the job role and to support the wider team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • To act in a confidential manner when dealing with commercial or personal information.
  • Project management training and experience.
  • Professional experience of rural/coastal/marine communities and/or the natural environment.
  • Experience of benefits evaluation and evidence-based decision making.
  • Experience of managing stakeholder engagement and discussions.
  • Track record of assimilating, using, interpreting and presenting data and evidence.
  • Experience of preparing and giving presentations including in high-profile situations.
