Job Description

  • Operations Management: Lead the daily management of all transport operations, ensuring the smooth coordination of deliveries, vehicle management, and routing. Monitor operations to optimise resources, reduce operational costs, and meet service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Team Leadership & Development: Manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team of drivers, transport coordinators, and support staff. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement, empowering your team to perform at their best. Regular performance reviews, training, and team development initiatives will be part of your remit.
  • Fleet Management & Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance, inspection, and licensing of the fleet, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. You will ensure vehicles are roadworthy, reliable, and efficiently utilised to minimise downtime and maximise productivity.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all transport operations comply with local and national transport regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental legislation. You will conduct risk assessments, implement corrective actions where necessary, and drive a culture of safety across the team.
  • Logistics Coordination: Work closely with other departments, including warehouse, inventory, and customer service teams, to ensure effective and timely coordination of deliveries. You will oversee routing and scheduling to ensure minimal delays and maximise operational efficiency.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Monitor and manage the budget for transport operations, focusing on cost control, fuel efficiency, and effective fleet utilisation. Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining service quality and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Performance Reporting & Analysis: Regularly analyse key performance metrics, including delivery times, fleet utilisation, fuel efficiency, and operational costs. You will use these insights to propose improvements, drive operational excellence, and achieve KPIs.
  • Customer Focus: Ensure the highest level of service is delivered to customers, meeting their expectations and resolving any transportation-related issues promptly. Work with the customer service team to ensure any feedback or complaints are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Strategic Improvements: Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including implementing new technologies, best practices, and operational processes to improve efficiency, service quality, and customer satisfaction.

The Successful Applicant

  • Proven Experience: A minimum of 5 year's experience in transport operations or logistics management, with a focus on managing teams, fleet operations, and optimising performance.
  • Industry Knowledge: A strong understanding of transport and logistics operations, including familiarity with relevant legislation, fleet management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrable experience managing and motivating teams, with the ability to drive performance, foster a positive working environment, and lead by example.
  • Operational Excellence: A strong background in optimising transport operations, improving efficiency's, reducing costs, and meeting service delivery goals.
  • Analytically Skills: Ability to analyse operational data, identify trends, and develop actionable strategies for improvement. Strong proficiency in performance reporting and KPI management.
  • Strong Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: A proactive, hands-on approach to resolving operational issues, minimising disruptions, and delivering solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technology Savvy: Familiarity with transport management software and other relevant tools. The ability to embrace new technology to improve operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
  • Full Driving License: A full, clean driving license is highly desirable, with an understanding of the logistics industry and the ability to oversee operations at all levels.
