This role will be part of the Traffic Team, ensuring our highways are efficiently managed, safe, and meet legal standards, whilst addressing the environmental impact of transportation and improving road safety and traffic flow.Job DescriptionAs a Senior Traffic Engineer working as part of a team, you will take responsibility for the application of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) and adherence to the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) in maintaining and enhancing the safety and functionality of our road network which is crucial for supporting the community's well-being and economic development.You will:Contribute significantly to our efforts in drafting, implementing, and reviewing TROs.Contribute to the progression towards to map based ordersEnsure that all traffic signage and road markings are in compliance with TSRGD guidelinesCollaborate with planning and enforcement teamsDevelop and apply effective traffic regulation strategies that enhance road safety, manage traffic flow, and support the needs of the communityThe Successful ApplicantA background in traffic engineering, regulation, stakeholder engagement and strong analytical and communication skills would be ideal for this role.A competent Highway engineering professional with a background in Traffic, Transport, Highways or related field.A relevant Degree related to the Construction & Built Environment (e.g., Civil Engineering) or similar relevant working experience.Must hold a full UK driving licence.You might be a member of a professional body such as ICE / IHE /IStructE but this is not essential.Knowledge and experience of preparing Traffic Regulation Orders, Speed Limit Orders and Parking Place Orders.Experience of designing Highway Engineering projects and experience of DMRBUnderstanding of the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway WorksAbility to use AutoCAD and specialist traffic and highways add-ons such as KeyLINES / AutoTURN would be an advantage.Project management, organisation, budget management and excellent interpersonal skills.An understanding of local authority or public sector procurement processes and regulations would be an advantage.An excellent communicator at all levels, with managing senior stakeholder relationships, customer and public facing communication and leading project teams.What's on OfferThis role offers a starting salary of £43,421 at Grade P09. This salary is subject to a national Pay Award, so there will be an increase from that amount which is yet to be confirmed.
