The Client:

My client is a well-established University based in London who are recruiting for a IT Project Manager. As the IT Services Project Manager you will project delivery across IT and the institution. You will have a background in technology and will use your experience and leadership capability to help shape and delivery of the technology projects, which serve the wider Digital agenda within the organisation.

Job Description

Your Role:

As the IT Project Manager will be responsible for:

  • End to end delivery of projects to time, cost, scope, and quality whilst adhering to IT Services PMO Governance Framework.
  • Applying pragmatism and analytical problem solving to issue resolution
  • Maintaining and promoting delivery focus in alignment to the business case objectives

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • End to end responsibility for the delivery of the assigned IT Projects within time, cost, scope, and quality tolerances.
  • Adherence to the IT Services PMO Governance framework to ensure all project outputs are produced in line with the documented standards for delivery and done so a timely manner.
  • Creation of the project plan, resource profile and budget required to deliver the project, collaborating with the project team to ensure that the team are aligned to and bought into their deliverables.
  • Management and maintenance of appropriate project documentation such as PID, plan, budget, and resource profiles using best practice tools.
  • Definition, agreement and communication of the project roles, responsibilities and organisation.
  • Create, document, and assign appropriate work packages to team members, using workflow tools such as Jira or Asana.
  • Ensure delivery by regularly monitoring, updating, and reviewing the project plan, critical path and key milestones.
  • Ensure project success by actively managing, controlling, and documenting RAIDD (risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies, decisions) and changes using best practice techniques.
  • Ensure projects remain aligned to the business case and deliver value to the client.
  • Ensuring that all aspects of project scoping, planning, issue resolution and stakeholder management are carried out effectively and efficiently.
  • Clearly communicating project status through formal (via project boards, highlight reports and escalation processes) and informal routes.
  • Defining, and managing quality expectations by working with the business and the project team to ensure acceptance criteria, test plans and approvals are documented.
  • Matrix management of technical and operational teams assigned to deliver the project.
  • Working and coordinating with 3rd Party Vendors and other IT Delivery teams.
  • Maintaining alignment to the overall projects' portfolio objectives, scope, budget and resource profile.

What you will need to be successful:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experienced in driving an output focussed project delivery approach.
  • Proven ability to add value to the project by challenging, analysing, and interpreting information received in an articulate and meaningful manner.
  • Technical background in project delivery with experience in acting as the liaison between technical teams and business teams and/or customers (who may be less tech savvy).
  • Proven leadership experience with an understanding how and when to drill down into the detail to validate and direct the team appropriately.
  • Experienced in effectively managing and controlling risks and issues using best practice techniques and common sense to clearly articulate approach, strategies, and recommendations to facilitate senior stakeholder decision making.
  • Experienced in using project delivery and planning workflow tools in which plans, work packages, and resourcing tasks are managed effectively in one project space.
  • An understanding of the technology lifecycle for project delivery with focus on using the right artefacts at the right time, applying governance and control in a pragmatic fashion.
  • Experienced in managing medium to large scale, complex projects where it has been essential to persevere through the initial ambiguity by creating structure and clarity.

Desirable

  • Breadth and depth Digital transformation experience and capability to guide the university on 'what good looks like' from a technology perspective, in line with the wider digital agenda and enterprise vision (Vision 2028).
  • Experience of working within the Higher Education sector.
  • Experience in using the Asana project tool.
