Job Description

  • Develop and implement buying strategies for the retail food department.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate contracts and secure the best prices.
  • Assess the quality of the merchandise and ensure it meets the company's standards.
  • Analyse market trends and apply this knowledge to make insightful buying decisions.
  • Work closely with the merchandising team to ensure correct stock levels are maintained.
  • Manage relationships with existing suppliers while seeking out potential new suppliers.
  • Evaluate supplier performance to ensure contract compliance.
  • Collaborate with team members to forecast future product needs.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Food Buyer should have:

  • An educational background in Business, Retail Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in a buying role within the retail industry.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and the ability to make informed buying decisions.
  • A thorough understanding of market trends in the retail industry.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
