Job Description

  • Oversee day-to-day finance activities, including accounts payable/receivable
  • Take ownership of cash management to maintain strong working capital and ensure healthy cashflow.
  • Establish and refine financial controls and procedures to support accuracy, compliance, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Lab teams to manage financial stock control effectively.
  • Lead enhancements to financial systems and workflows.
  • Drive system integrations to improve efficiency and streamline operations.
  • Create clear, accessible internal documentation and process maps to support consistency as the team grows.
  • Stay current with accounting standards and ensure best practices are embedded across finance operations.
  • Manage and improve cashflow forecasting models, providing both short- and long-term visibility.
  • Partner with the Finance Business Partner on budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning to support strategic decision-making.
  • Track and report key financial metrics such as burn rate, gross margin, and runway.
  • Deliver timely and accurate monthly management accounts, including detailed variance analysis and commentary.
  • Assist with quarterly investor updates and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with budget holders to monitor spend, challenge assumptions, and ensure alignment with financial goals.
  • Handle VAT returns, audit schedules, and HMRC submissions to maintain compliance.
  • Ensure all reporting adheres to audit and regulatory standards.
  • Work closely with People, Commercial, and Operations teams on payroll, credit control, billing, procurement, and cost management.
  • Support commercial analysis and due diligence efforts, helping identify and mitigate financial risks.
  • Advocate for financial transparency and empower teams to make informed, data-driven decisions
  • Grow, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance team aligned with our culture and growth objectives.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive environment that promotes continuous learning and high standards.

The Successful Applicant

Essential:

  • Qualified chartered accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), with multiple years' experience post-qualification
  • Experience in industry, ideally in a high-growth start-up or fast-paced environment
  • Excellent understanding of UK accounting standards, VAT, and financial controls
  • Highly proficient in accounting systems
