We are seeking a Director of Finance to join our Executive Management Team (EMT) and contribute to the success and growth of our College. This is a pivotal role offering the opportunity to shape our financial future and make a real impact.Key Responsibilities:As a Member of EMT:Serve as a role model of excellence and professional conduct.Provide positive leadership, fostering a supportive and innovative environment.Attend Board of Corporation meetings, offering expert advice and insights.Develop effective communication and promote teamwork across the College.Stay updated on best practices, offering professional advice to the Principal and EMT.Ensure compliance with Financial Regulations and College Policies.Identify and manage risks, reporting to the Principal as necessary.Engage in continuous professional development and review team performance.Represent the College on external bodies and participate in duty management rota.Specific Responsibilities as Director of Finance:Provide strategic financial advice and direction to EMT and the Board.Oversee the annual business and budget planning cycle, including financial forecasts.Ensure compliance with statutory and external requirements, including auditors and HMRC.Maintain effective financial regulations and ensure user compliance.Manage relationships with auditors and recommend service appointments.Handle financial returns to the Department for Education accurately and on time.Manage diverse income streams and prepare audited financial accounts.Provide comprehensive financial reports to meet managerial needs.Ensure timely production of monthly management accounts and budget reports.Maintain and develop the College's finance system for efficient operation.Plan and implement a new finance system before the current one ends in 2029.Ensure procurement aligns with financial regulations and secures value for money.Offer guidance on VAT, PAYE, and taxation matters.Manage cash flow, ensuring operational needs are met, and surplus funds are invested securely.Maintain the College's register of fixed assets and inventory.Oversee the College's insurance coverage, including annual renewals and tenders.Management Responsibilities:Ensure all operational financial requirements and deadlines are met by the team.Manage payroll, ensuring accurate and timely staff payments and compliance with HMRC and pension bodies.Oversee the curriculum resources function, including timetabling, budgeting, and course costing.The Successful ApplicantQualificationsDegree level qualification or equivalentRecognised professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA)Formal leadership trainingKnowledge/SkillsKnowledge and experience of Further Education funding and finance (ideally)Proven track record of success in a similar roleSound knowledge and experience of financial processes and systemsAttending and making presentations at formal meetingsInterpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships with senior managers and staffExpertise in the use of ExcelAbility to assess situations and act on own initiative effectivelyExcellent numerical and reporting writing skillsUp-to-date technical knowledgeExperienceLeadership experience in a similar-sized organisationPreparation of financial statements for auditBudgeting and management account reportingExperience in managing teams, including financeWorking to and meeting deadlinesPersonal QualitiesWork well under pressureGood communicatorConsultativeEffective InfluencerKeen to learn and developCommitment to Equality and DiversityCommitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our learnersWhat's on OfferThis excellent opportunity to help financially steer this vibrant organisation through its next chapter through innovative financial management, ensuring the College's continued success.
