Director of Governance and Compliance

Role:

  • Support the Board and the Chief Executive in fulfilling their responsibilities for the proper governance of the charity, registered provider and company, and compliance with relevant regulatory authorities and standards.
  • Be the primary interface with key regulators including the Charity Commission and Regulator of Social Housing and closely manage the relationship with each to ensure that the Housing Association remains in line with their existing requirements and is able to plan effectively for upcoming changes.
  • Developing and implementing effective governance and compliance programs.
  • Ensuring the organisation's adherence to all legal and ethical standards.
  • Develop an efficient and effective governance and compliance operating structure that leverages and maintains the expertise of each team but maximises the synergies available by bringing these teams together
  • Deputise for the CFO as required
  • Act as Deputy Safeguarding Lead and deputise for the Safeguarding Lead as required.
  • Act as Company Secretary for the Housing Association and its subsidiary companies and ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with company and charity law and all other relevant legislation.
  • Manage the Board meetings and advise around Governance and Compliance matters

Essential:

  • A strong understanding of governance and compliance within the Not For Profit sector.
  • Experience in managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders such as the Charity Commission, the Regulator of Social Housing and the Chair and Board of Trustees.
  • Exceptional leadership and management skills.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and standards, particularly in relation to charity law, company law, and social housing regulations
  • Strong strategic and operational planning skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective governance and compliance structures.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
