Job Description

  1. Leadership
    • Be the principal ambassador / face and voice of the charity to potential funders, media and the general public.
    • Seek out, develop and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant organisations and individuals to promote the work of the charity and facilitate the implementation of its strategic objectives.
    • Lead, support and motivate staff and secure their loyalty and commitment to the charity's aims and objectives.
    • Lead by example, instilling a culture of professionalism and inclusion, supported by coaching, training and development.
    • Maintain a strong link to the Board of Trustees by keeping them informed of organisational activities and external influences that may impact on operations.




  1. Strategy
    • Liaise with the Board to develop the charity's strategic vision and be responsible for leading the implementation of it.
    • Be responsible for the development and delivery of the charity's agreed business plans.
    • Identify and assess strategic risks, issues and opportunities and take responsibility for initiating and leading associated changes.
    • Seek out and implement opportunities for innovation and ensure that Families First remains a place of choice for children, young people and their families with additional support needs.
    • Work with the Board to ensure organisational stability particularly in relation to financial stability.




  1. Partnerships
    • Lead the promotion and development of Families First work, raising the charity's profile and maximising its reach.
    • Seek out, develop and nurture beneficial partnerships with supporters, donors, other charities and all relevant authorities/organisations, including maintaining good working relations with pre-existing partnerships throughout Fife.
    • Ensure service users are able to contribute views to assist future planning for the organisation.
    • Adopt a creative and innovative approach to development, remaining open to new ideas and opportunities.




  1. Operations
    • Be responsible for the implementation of the charity's business and operational plans.
    • Take executive responsibility for all aspects of Families First work including the delivery of the services to children, young people and their families, office administration, finance, fundraising, and communications.
    • Ensure that services, contracts and projects are delivered to the highest standard with due regard for timescales, targets and budgets.
    • Work towards the achievement of long-term organisational sustainability through identifying sources of funding (including individual, corporate, legacy and trust donations) and writing fundraising bids, negotiating contracts and ensuring delivery of service contracts.
    • Develop best practice for the management, development and engagement of staff and volunteers by taking overall responsibility for the recruitment, management and effective deployment of staff and volunteers and applying robust HR processes covering recruitment, performance management, appraisal and remuneration.
    • Line manage the Service Manager, Office Manager and Finance Officer.
    • Be responsible for the maintenance and efficient use of the charity's assets.
    • Be the named child and adult protection officer for Families First and ensure that all child and adult protection policies are adhered to at all times.




  1. Financial Control
    • Ensure that the financial planning, forecasting, control, reporting and management of the organisation's finances and resources is presented to the directors/trustees, board and relevant sub-groups to ensure regulatory compliance and sustainable organisational growth.
    • Take executive responsibility for the financial leadership of the charity, including forecasting and strategic budget planning.
    • Ensure that the charity's financial resources are managed effectively and that the Families First Board are given regular updates and alerted to risks and concerns regarding the financial health of the organisation.
    • Liaise with the Board to develop and lead on the implementation of the charity's financial plans, including setting budgets, formulating income generation strategies and overseeing all fundraising activities.

The Successful Applicant


Essential

DesirableQualificationMust have a SVQ Level 4 in Childcare or the equivalent.A SVQ Level 4 in management or the equivalent.ExperienceA minimum 5 years' demonstrable experience of management at a senior level within a comparable organisation.

Demonstrable experience of working within a charity or care environment.Experience of working effectively with and reporting to a voluntary Board of Directors.Previous responsibility for developing, influencing and managing organisational policy decisions at a senior level.

Demonstrable experience of strategic planning and negotiation, with funding and regulatory bodies.Demonstrable experience of working directly with the community and involvement in community projects, of a substantial permanent nature.Demonstrable financial, budgetary development and HR management experience.

Knowledge of Health and Safety and the resulting legal requirementDemonstrable experience of producing, interpreting and presenting relevant statistical information.Demonstrable experience of implementing organisational change programmes/projects and in making improvements to enhance performance.Special SkillsDemonstrable ability to problem solve effectively.Excellent planning, time management and organisational skills. Must include demonstrable evidence of personal effectiveness and the ability to ensure deadlines are met.
