The DEC launches appeals when there is a humanitarian emergency of such magnitude to warrant a national UK response. DEC fundraising appeals benefit from unique corporate partnerships through our Rapid Response Network and the combined expertise of our member charities, resulting in wide reaching appeals across high profile TV, radio, and an increasing number of digital channels.

Job Description



  • Lead Organic Strategy - Manage DEC's social media presence across all platforms, shaping and delivering organic content strategies aligned with organisational goals.


  • Content Management - Oversee posting, scheduling, and community engagement, including out-of-hours monitoring and crisis response.


  • Team Oversight - Supervise staff, freelancers, and agencies during busy periods, approving content and guiding planning.


  • Platform Relationships - Maintain and develop connections with major platforms like Meta, TikTok, YouTube, and X to support campaign delivery.


  • Analytics & Reporting - Use data to refine strategies, optimise performance, and produce regular reports, including daily updates during appeals.


  • Creative Production - Create tailored content (videos, graphics, templates) for each platform, including influencer collaborations and field-generated assets.


  • Content Coordination - Work with internal teams and external creatives to ensure timely, culturally sensitive, and brand-aligned content.


  • Campaign Integration - Align social media with broader communications, appeal strategies, and digital journeys to maximise engagement and donations.


  • Collaboration with Charities - Coordinate with DEC member charities and lead a social media working group to amplify campaign messaging.


  • Trend Monitoring - Stay current on platform developments and social media trends to inform strategy and content innovation.

The Successful Applicant



  • Proven Social Media Expertise - Demonstrated success managing organic social media strategies and campaigns, ideally within an NGO or humanitarian context.


  • Content Creation Skills - Skilled in producing platform-specific digital assets and short-form videos aligned with brand guidelines.


  • Strategic Engagement - Strong grasp of content and engagement strategies to grow reach and connect with target audiences.


  • Trend Awareness - Specialist knowledge of evolving social media platforms, trends, and opportunities for innovation.


  • Influencer & Public Figure Engagement - Experience collaborating with content producers, influencers, and public figures to amplify messaging.


  • Leadership & Collaboration - Ability to advise senior stakeholders, manage teams, and foster cross-functional collaboration.


  • Safeguarding & Ethics - Understanding of safeguarding vulnerable people online, GDPR compliance, and ethical storytelling practices.


  • Creative & Technical Skills - Proficient in design, video editing, and storytelling across editorial, visual, and audio formats.


  • Resilience & Agility - Capable of working under pressure, managing multiple projects, and handling sensitive content with care.


  • Data-Driven Decision Making - Confident in analysing digital metrics and translating insights into actionable improvements.
