London, 1 July 2014: Earlier this month more than 100 PageGroup employees from across the UK swapped their office attire for hiking boots to conquer the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, in aid of charity partner, Alzheimer`s Research UK.
The specialist recruitment company selected Alzheimer`s Research UK for a two-year partnership in 2013 and regularly participate in challenges and sporting events to increase donations and awareness. The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is its biggest fundraising event of the year, which involves dedicated staff summiting the three highest peaks over a 25-mile hike in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
PageGroup`s 31 UK offices have pledged to fundraise £200,000 for the funding of two Research Scholarships in the dementia research field on PhD programmes. Additionally, PageGroup is committed to covering 200,000 miles – whether it is in the form of walking, running, cycling, rowing, or climbing.
Since its charity partnership launch in May 2013, PageGroup has raised over £100,000 for Alzheimer`s Research UK and is committed to bring hope to thousands of UK families who are profoundly affected by dementia. This is the sixth year PageGroup has tackled the gruelling challenge and raised over £36,000 for innovative dementia research, exceeding its original target by £6,000.
The challenge is renowned for testing people`s strength and endurance and traditionally sparks PageGroup employees’ competitive spirit. There are even the occasional few who run the distance in a bid to be the first to cross the finish line.
Olly Watson, Managing Director of PageGroup, said:
“Never giving up, being passionate, working as a team, and having fun are part of our core values at PageGroup. The Three Peaks Challenge tests these values and I`m very proud of our people who return year-after-year to complete this challenge.
“In particular, this year’s event had the highest number of participants in six years – a great effort. It’s events like this which make the most significant impact on our fundraising targets so I’m delighted to see so many of our UK team get together to raise vital funds for vital dementia research.”
Miranda Johnson, Head of Corporate and Community Partnerships at Alzheimer`s Research UK, said:
“What an amazing challenge! I`m thrilled to see staff at PageGroup scaling such heights to boost our research. Thanks to their support, we`ve been able to bring two scientists into dementia research, helping find vital answers to specific dementia research questions.
“Dementia is our greatest medical challenge – currently we lack effective treatments to tackle diseases that cause it, but research holds the answer. Investment in research is crucial to make much needed new treatments a reality, and it`s thanks to people like staff at PageGroup that we can continue funding our work.”
