About Our Client

Due to continued investment, growth and expansion a newly created opportunity has become available for an Operations Director to join a fast growth manufacturer of process machinery.

The company provide a range of process solutions for use within infrastructure projects across the construction and industrial process sectors.

The Operations Director will report into the Managing Director and have overarching responsibility for company operations including production, operational management and field engineering services to keep the Company at the forefront of the industry.

The Operations Director plays a pivotal leadership role in driving operational and quality excellence behaviours while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, environment for staff and the business

Job Description

  • Responsible for overseeing company operations including production, operational management and field engineering services.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the managers in the operations departments and total team (circa 60 employees) providing guidance and an environment where they can thrive and achieve their potential.
  • Drive operational strategies to support the commercial strategy to optimise operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Spearhead the integration of Lean processes into the manufacturing operations to optimise efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Develop project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Take ownership of financial performance metrics relating to the areas of responsibility.
  • Provide support and challenge across the whole business on environmental, health and safety matters.
  • Ensure development opportunities for the teams through qualifications, skills development, mentoring and coaching
  • Monitor industry trends and technology advancements to reduce costs and ensure the business remains competitive.
  • Identify CAPEX requirements and provide clear return on investment business cases for such plans.
  • Develop strong relationships across the business to understand the market requirements to drive innovation

The Successful Applicant

  • A well-rounded hands-on Operations Director who has broad experience in an engineered solutions manufacturing environment.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in an engineering field with a strong understanding of production management and field service provisions.
  • Strong knowledge of production management, quality control and process improvement techniques.
  • Extensive working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements of a production and engineering function, and able to lead and demand promote a strong HSE culture.
  • Competent in problem solving, team building, planning and decision making.
  • Hands on/can do attitude with an open and likeable personality with honesty and integrity.
  • Can operate equally effectively in the boardroom and on the shop floor.
  • Leadership style; informal, inclusive, visible, structured, empathetic but directive.
  • People focused down to earth approach who has flexibility of thinking with that would suit an rapidly expanding SME environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the UK and overseas as and when necessary.
