Job Description

This senior, technical role offers a unique chance to lead from the front, driving the validation and review of wholesale credit risk models in line with IRB requirements. You will manage a team of specialists, stay ahead of industry trends, and provide strategic advice to senior regulatory stakeholders. You'll be a key player in ensuring firms' risks are accurately assessed and help develop industry best practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team to critically assess firms' wholesale credit risk models and rating systems, providing in-depth analysis and presenting findings to senior regulatory committees.
  • Spearheading on-site assessments and desk-based reviews of firm documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Offering expert advice on IRB policies, supporting their development and implementation across regulatory frameworks.
  • Driving technical expertise within the team, providing insights into the latest credit risk modelling techniques and regulatory nuances.
  • Engaging with other departments to broaden thinking on wholesale credit risk modelling and influence cross-team initiatives.
  • Playing a key advisory role in decision-making, IFRS 9 provisions, and stress testing models.

The Successful Applicant

Our client is seeking a driven individual with deep quantitative expertise in IRB model development and validation, particularly within wholesale credit risk.

You'll bring both technical mastery and leadership acumen to this role, coupled with the ability to communicate complex findings to a range of stakeholders.

Minimum Criteria:

  • Significant experience in wholesale IRB model development or validation, particularly for firms engaged in wholesale lending, consultancy, or within regulatory bodies.
  • Extensive knowledge of IRB model techniques, regulatory requirements (CRR, Supervisory Statements), and governance/validation processes.
  • Proven experience in leading comprehensive model development/validation processes and producing detailed technical documentation for wholesale IRB models.



Essential Skills:

  • Expertise in IRB modelling across portfolios such as SMEs, Mid Corporates, Large Corporates, Banks, Insurance, Funds, and NBFIs.
  • A strong track record in managing multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to distill complex quantitative analysis into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Impressive interpersonal and influencing skills, with a talent for building relationships and working collaboratively across teams.
  • A commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion.



Desirable:

  • Experience managing and leading teams or significant projects.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk model usage within a wholesale credit risk function.
  • Knowledge of credit risk stress testing techniques.
