About Our Client

The Forest Garden Group is the UK's market leading manufacturer and distributor of garden timber products; covering garden buildings, fencing, decking and decorative garden structures. The £100m+ Group supplies most UK retail, DIY and trade channels, it is true multi-channel operator supporting both direct to store and home delivery fulfilment. Uniquely within the Groups sector, it is a vertically integrated entity; with sawmills, assembly and distribution it has control of its supply chain from the forest to the doorstep. This control alongside investment in systems and automation has allowed the Group to progressively take UK market dominance in its sector over the last few years.

Job Description

  • Leadership & Vision: Lead and inspire our Group Finance team to achieve overall finance objectives and drive the company's financial vision forward.
  • Strategic Partnership: Work closely with the Group Chief Executive, Chairman, and other stakeholders on Group Development planning, providing financial modelling and strategic input.
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting that supports business decision-making and meets UK statutory requirements (PAYE, VAT, etc.).
  • Management Accounts: Oversee the production of monthly management accounts for each Business Unit and ensure accurate Group consolidation.
  • Budget Management: Manage the annual budget process, guiding departments through the timetable and actively reviewing submissions to align with business goals.
  • Cashflow & Tax Strategy: Provide robust cashflow forecasting and minimise tax risks through compliance and an effective tax strategy.
  • Process Improvement: Continually review and enhance financial accounting processes to ensure they are robust, streamlined, and reflect best practice.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Build and manage effective relationships with external audit, tax, and insurance providers, as well as maintaining strong ties with banks and other finance sources.
  • Internal Collaboration: Work closely with operational managers to balance business support with budgetary discipline, ensuring financial processes are well-documented and appraised.
  • Company Secretarial Role: Fulfill the responsibilities of the Company Secretary, ensuring all statutory obligations are met.



 

The Successful Applicant

What we are looking for:

Essential Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role, ideally within a similar turnover company.
  • Previous experience working within the manufacturing sector, including knowledge and practice in implementing and managing standard costing systems.
  • Extensive experience and contemporary knowledge of accounting principles, including UK GAAP and IFRS.
  • High competence in managing cashflow and treasury operations.
  • Exposure to UK tax and VAT returns, with a strong understanding of compliance requirements.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Excellent communicator, capable of building strong relationships both internally and externally
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Highly IT literate, with deep experience using leading accounting software, MS Office, and ERP systems.
  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with a deep understanding of accounting principles, including UK GAAP, IFRS, and UK statutory requirements.
