We are seeking a Finance Assistant to join a supportive public sector finance team in North Manchester. This role is ideal for someone looking to build or continue a career in financial administration. Under the guidance of the Finance Manager you will provide accurate and efficient support across a wide range of finance duties including purchase ledger, sales ledger & payroll.

Job Description

Finance Assistant duties will include:Finance & Accounting



  • Process purchase orders and supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy and proper authorisation


  • Support with sales invoice creation and distribution; assist with debt monitoring and chasing payments


  • Handle supplier queries, process refunds/credit notes, and liaise with staff and external contacts


  • Manage and maintain data on financial systems


  • Assist with journal entries, bank reconciliations, and petty cash/income handling


  • Provide financial reports and budget support to staff as required


  • Help to organise school trips and associated payments (hotels, transport, etc.)


  • Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems for audit purposes



Administration & Communication



  • Act as the first point of contact for finance-related queries, managing email and phone communications efficiently


  • Maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive financial data


  • Update and maintain inventory/asset records and complete annual checks


  • Assist with general office administration, including data entry, reception duties and producing documents or spreadsheets


  • Provide support and guidance to school staff on finance procedures and systems

The Successful Applicant

A successful Finance Assistant should have:

  • Proven experience in accounting or finance roles.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and reporting standards.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
  • An ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
