About Us

The University of Buckingham is the UK's only independent Chartered University.  We provide undergraduate and postgraduate courses for full time and part time students, and support an independent and vigorous research agenda. Founded in 1976, the University received its Royal Charter in March 1983 and awarded its first degrees in February 1984.  A unique feature of the University is the two-year undergraduate degree.

Our Employees

Despite being among the UK's smallest universities and the only independent University to hold a Royal Charter, Buckingham has staff from over 60 countries, making it a truly distinctive work environment, allowing us to be agile and dynamic. A number of our students have also returned to us as employees.

Career Development

We are proud to be able to offer lots of opportunity for development, with excellent opportunities to network and continue learning across a variety of departments.

Office Culture

The University of Buckingham has a unique atmosphere, unlike that of any other higher educational institution. Our size enables us to foster a very personalised, supportive, inclusive and collaborative environment.

Our Values

We celebrate diversity and work hard to make sure we’re inclusive.  Buckingham is a place where teachers, support staff and students will get to know each other personally and staff have the opportunity for full involvement in University life. In addition, the University's surrounding area has many picturesque walks, beautiful villages and heritage buildings of national importance which make a very pleasurable working environment.
